What Are The Categories Of Automotive Hoses?

Mar 19, 2025

1. Classification by use

Hose for brake system
Hydraulic/pneumatic/vacuum brake hose: The transmission of brake media (such as brake oil, compressed air or vacuum signals) is the core component of the automotive brake system.

High temperature/corrosion resistant hose: for special working conditions, such as engine oil circuit, exhaust pipe, etc.

Hose for oil system
Fuel delivery pipe: connected to the oil pump, fuel injection nozzle and other components, must be resistant to fuel corrosion.

Coolant pipe: transfer coolant, must be resistant to high temperature and frost.

Hose for other systems
Power steering tube: The hydraulic booster pump is connected to the steering system, which must be resistant to oil pressure.

Vacuum booster pump pipeline: transmit vacuum signal to ensure the steering effect.

Exhaust pipe and engine oil circuit: transport gasoline/lubricating oil, high temperature and shock resistance.

2. by material classification
Rubber hose
EPDM rubber: aging resistance, corrosion resistance, but low temperature performance is poor, vulnerable to impact rupture.

Butadiene rubber: ozone resistance, high temperature resistance, often used in power steering system 3.

Nylon hose
Strong anti-aging performance, but weak tensile ability at low temperature, easy to damage due to impact.
Hose of metal
Stainless steel hose: corrosion resistant, high temperature resistant, used for precision instrument signal lines.

Metal bellows: wear resistance, tensile resistance, often used in industrial equipment pipelines.

Other materials
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) : light weight, low cost, mostly used in drainage, ventilation and other civil scenarios.

3. Other classification dimensions
Structure type: single-layer tubing (such as buqing rubber), double-layer tubing, etc.

Working environment: high temperature, low temperature, corrosive media and other special scenarios.

Automotive hoses should be selected according to the specific conditions of the material and structure, the brake system gives priority to high pressure and corrosion resistance, the oil system pays attention to fuel resistance and high temperature performance, and other systems focus on flexibility and impact resistance. Regular inspection and replacement of aging or damaged hoses is the key to ensure driving safety.
